In President Bush's first debate with Senator Kerry, which took place in 2004, Bush defends himself from accusations made by Kerry by stating that legal actions have been taken in response to 9/11.This is an example of judicial oratory because Bush shows legal facts to defend his case. George Bush states that Kerry voted in favor for a certain policy that would harm society while in the debate he claimed different. This is an example of deliberative oratory because Bush is referring to certain policies and things to be considered in the future. Kerry talks about the war in Iraq and how Bush didnt do certain things correctly, almost blaming Bush for the war. This is an example of epideictic oratory because Kerry is almost blaming Bush for the cause and downward spiral of the Iraqi war. Bush states "I don't see how you can lead this country to succeed in Iraq if you say wrong war, wrong time, wrong place.". This is a non sequitur fallacy because Bush is saying that just because Kerry feels a certain way about the war then he wont be fit to run this country.

I joined the bioethics community under euthanasia in the search page. I didn't find the comments of others too helpful. I got two replies and both were very vague and simple. I believe argument on line is not too reliable. Sometimes it may be very helpful and at other times it may be a joke, so you never know.

One of Michael Moore's points is that if big companies want to keep operating the way that they are, then they should sell crack to maximize their profits. His sarcastic narrative voice helps to draw the reader's attention. It also makes the reader think about what is going on in the economic world that we, as customers, do not see. I believe Moore is trying to reach out to the younger generation of all races because they will be the ones that will be able to make changes in this field in the future. I do agree with Moore's idea and his solution to the problem.

One of Benlow's most interesting points states that people do not think about the future the way that they should. People are just worried about the newest supply, tool, or luxury that they can obtain. Benlow is talking in an apologetic tone as if it is too late to fix what ever is wrong. This helps the reader understand what Benlow is actually trying to say. Benlow is talking to the young generation in hope that they will think of the future generations to come and what type of world they have to live in.

Logical fallacies are constantly used in political debates and campaigns. Ad hominem fallacies are the exact type of fallacy that it is frequently in politics. For example, one senator may bring up the fact that the opposing senator got a DUI twenty years ago and because of that they are not fit for the position. That is not a relevant argument because the incident happened a long time ago and the person may have matured since then. That type of rhetorical fallacy is used to draw the attention away from the main argument and focus more on a personal attack on the competitor.

Journal #10 [Oct. 25th, 2006|10:55 pm]
In the article that i found, the author's main argument is that America has changed from an SUV and truck nation to a small car nation. He goes on to talk about the factors which caused this shift in interest in America. His audience is the business world as well as consumers. His argument is not very persuasive and does not really reach the reader. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/25/automobiles/autospecial/25small.html?ref=business

The author is trying to aware the people of a certain type of influenza which may be devastating to society. The author goes on to talk about ways the virus can be spread as well as ways one can protect themselves from the influenza. The audience being addressed in the article is very wide in range. The author does a nice job of informing the reader, but he fails to impact the reader by getting them engaged.

The author questions the role of high stakes football in higher education. The author's key points reveal startling information about collegiate athletics and their tax-exempt status. The writer does a nice job of addressing his audience which is the public and peoples in the position of power.

The author is addressing the problem of hunger across the world. Her key points break down her main argument by stating that it is not just other countries with this problem, it is America as well. She then goes on to talk about ways to help fight this problem. She did a very well job of reaching the reading by using horrifying statistics and by addressing her audience, which was the general public.

Journal #7 [Oct. 16th, 2006|09:41 pm]
Driving has become very dangerous lately due to many factors. One being the weather conditions. Another factor just as important, reckless drivers. So now, cars come with many safety features. For example, air bags and traction control. Both help keep the driver safe in case of dangerous situations. One of the main safety features that come on almost all cars is ABS(Anti-lock Brake System).

The anti-lock brake system helps the car stop in rough conditions such as rain or snow. It prevents the driver from locking the brakes so that the car doesn't slide. When this process happens, most drivers think their brakes are defective because the brake pedal begins to pulsate. The reason for that is because the brake pads tighten on the brake disc and then release constantly until the car comes to a stop. When a car looses traction on the road, the driver is supposed to tap the brakes to regain traction. That's whats happening when the abs turns on. The driver just has to simply tap the brakes and the abs does the rest of the work.

It seems that there was a lot of injustice and poverty that prompted Swift to write this essay. The economic conditions he described seemed very poor and scarce. The economy was so bad that many families had no food or clothes for themselves. Swift suggested that the poor mothers sell their babies as food for shillings in a sarcastic but serious tone. I believe his tone was fitting for this essay because it would help his message stand out and make people talk about it.

I think Barry's intended audience was the general public. The message she is trying to send to her audience is that while you are judging, you are being judged. She uses pictures and little comic strips to help the reader visualize what she is actually explaining. The pictures help the reader to understand who she is exactly talking about and what is exactly going on. If Berry delivered her story solely with words, then the reader would have to imagine what shes talking about. But on the other hand, with the pictures, the reader is able to see the expressions on the faces of the character's and see the emotion.

PART 1
Going to a restaurant is a good family experience. Eating at a restaurant is exciting to some because they sit at home every night and eat dinner at the exact same time and table. So when people go out to restaurants, they are breaking away from their everyday routine which is a relief to some.

PART 1
The majority of our generation today does not have the right priorities due to outside influences, such as parties and video games. Parents must teach their children the concept of priorities at an early age, in order for them to be able to manage their priorities. Having the right priorities are essential to maintaining good grades. If our generation does not have the right priorities, then the next generation will learn from us and become the same way.

PART 2
In order for a child to manage their priorities, the parents must teach them the concept of priorities at an early age, . Once a child has a grasp on the concept, they are able to practice keeping their priorities in order which will only lead to good things. If a child didn't have a parent or guardian to tell them how to keep their priorities in order, then they would play video games and watch tv instead of going to school. But if a child has the right priorities, then they are more likely to be successful as a student.

In Martin Luther King's letter from Birmingham, he addresses to several clergymen who have written him with criticism. Martin Luther King feels these are credible clergymen who only mean good so he writes them back justifying his actions which led to his incarceration. Dr. King when on to talk about segregation not just in Atlanta but everywhere. He went on to talk about how racism has effected all parties and that racism only leads to more hatred. Dr. King includes his way of getting rid of segregation by using nonviolence. He uses examples of Hitler to show that just because something is the law doesnt mean that it is just or right.

Restaurants can be very fun and enjoyable, depending on which restaurant that you go to. At an all around good restaurant, the food will be excellent, the service will be excellent, and your whole experience will be enjoyable

The sole purpose of a restaurant is to eat food. There are a variety of different employees there to help accomidate your needs. You first get seated, then your waiter/waitress comes. The waiter/waitress will get you a beverage fisrst then come back n take everyones order.

Ethically restaurants are a good atmosphere for bringing people and families together.

writing about writing [Sep. 13th, 2006|10:43 am]
Writing helps one express their thoughts and ideas. Writing is also a form and tool of communication. Writing is not a simple task. There are many rules and guidelines to writing correctly. You cant just write what ever is on your mind . Others might read your writing and not be able to understand what it is your trying to say. That is why there are rules to writing, so to make sure all writers' messages can be understood clearly by the reader. Without these rules and guidelines, the writer would be the only one able to read his writing
